We are very excited to introduce you to the newest member of our family – coming in 2017!
Bourbon, our favorite and future flagship product is being made every week and patiently aging in our barrelhouse. Some new small distilleries will open up and immediately start selling bourbon. How do they do this you might ask yourself? Well a lot of them simply buy already aged whiskey made by another distillery, simply bottle it up, put their label on it and pass it off as their own. That is NOT what Rich Grain Distilling Co. is about. Every drop of our products are made here on site from their raw ingredients, mashed, fermented, distilled, aged if required, and bottled.
Our bourbon begins its life as two separate recipes, or mash bills in distillery vernacular. Mash Bill #1 is comprised of 66% corn, 17% malted barley, and 17% rye. Mash Bill #2 is made from 66% corn, 17% malted barley, and 17% wheat. Generally speaking, bourbons made with a little bit of rye have a black pepper, floral spiciness on the front end. Wheated bourbons are usually a little softer and sweeter than bourbons made with rye. Mash Bill #1 and Mash Bill #2 are milled, mashed, fermented, distilled, barreled, and aged as separate bourbons. When it comes time for bottling, a select barrel from each recipe will be picked and then married together. The final spirit won’t be too spicy, or too sweet, but will be perfectly balanced and well rounded. We think you’ll enjoy it when it’s ready.
